How To Use The Find My iPhone Cell Phone Tracking App

In this day and age of the iPhone, there seems to be an app for just about everything.  There is a new cell phone tracking app out called Find My iPhone that is perfect for locating lost iPhones.  If you want to try this application out, you can download the app and install it on your phone for free but it won’t work unless you subscribe to the MobileMe service.  MobileMe is gracious enough to give a 60 day trial for those who want to try it out but if you would like to keep the service after the end of the 60 days, you’ll be billed $99.00 for one years worth of use.

Upon successfully downloading and installing the Find My iPhone cell phone locator onto your iPhone and subscribing to the MobileMe service, you’re ready to give it a try.  You’ll want to try it out to make sure that it’s properly configured so if you actually have to use Find My iPhone to find your lost or stolen iPhone, you will know that the service working properly.  To do this, make sure that your phone is turned on and in a cell phone service coverage area.  Then, simply log into your MobileMe account with your user ID and password.  After you have logged in, you’ll see the location of your iPhone displayed on the screen on a map.

Being able to find a lost or stolen iPhone with the Find My iPhone cell phone locator is nice but there are a couple of other features that are also nice.  The first of these features will allow you to send a signal to your phone that will lock the phone and prevent any unauthorized use and basically render the phone useless.  The second of these features is not reversible so it should not be used under any circumstances unless you feel like there’s no chance of ever recovering your phone.  This feature will delete any of your personal information from the phone so that it doesn’t end up in the wrong hands.
