What Causes Women To Choose to Become a Redhead?

There is something about a redhead that invariably turns heads whenever they walk by. Perhaps it is their striking appearance, perhaps their reputation of being fiery and bold? Some men go weak in the knees whenever a blond gazes at him, others prefer the sultry, exotic brunette but it is hard to find a man who does not dream of dating a redhead.

Redheads are notoriously known for their fiery tempers but they are also stereotyped with other attributes which may or may not be true. They are thought of as strong and independent, fiercely caring and protective of their loved ones, a powerhouse of energy and drive, and above all, they are unique. When it comes to hair color red hair has a most fascinating history as well.

While other notable attributes assigned to redheads may be myth, it is true that women sporting a natural red hair color definitely are unique! In fact researchers say that all shades of red hair color will cease to exist anymore within the next one hundred years or so. Worldwide, natural redheads make up about 3% of the world’s population, although in Scotland, Ireland the percentage is up to around 8%.  In order to be born a redhead you must inherit a red gene from both your father and your mother. With current racial integration and migration of people to lands distant from their natural homelands, this possibility is rapidly declining. Incidentally, blonds are on the decrease as well.

Some women choose red because they feel like a total change of hair color, and many of these women say that they did feel like a different person.  I dyed my hair a bright scarlet red one time on accident, and no, I did not leave it that color.  Some women like to change their hair color with the seasons.  One fun thing about changing to a red hair color is that you get to update your entire wardrobe and your make-up, or at least you should as make up and fashion for redheads should be unique. Perhaps that is part of the reason why women choose to go red, they have the opportunity to wear clothing colors and make up that they normally would not be able to wear.
