Traveling to a vacation spot for sport fishing can be very frustrating without a local professional fishing guide. They can be worth their weight in gold if you do not know the area and where the type of fish you are trying to catch are biting. The fees the guide charges may seem a little steep, but think about he time and money you will save. In addition, they supply all the gear, and you show up at a specified time, buy your food for the day, and buy the bait if necessary. After all, you are there to fish, and not line up a boat rental, buy tackle, purchasing fuel, etc.
When hiring fishing guides have a plan in mind, and check online when the season starts and ends. Another trick to finding a good guide is to call the local marina stores, and bait shops to inquire about the best guide for the money. This way you will weed out someone who has just thrown up a website claiming they are the best when in reality they know little to nothing about fishing in their area. Get at least three quotes before making a decision. References are great to get, but this type of business may not be that formally structured to keep information like this on hand.
Ask your would be guide what is included in the package, and what you will need to provide. Most packages are all inclusive, so you will only need to show up with a cooler of soft drinks, sun block, sunglasses, and proper attire. The rest is up to your captain. Also check about their policy about rain, and if they will credit your day with an alternate day. This is not always the case, some guides require prepayment, and do not credit or refund because of weather conditions.
