Canvas is a very heavy-duty fabric that is plain-woven, with cotton canvas especially suited for tent material due to its sturdiness and durability.

Canvas tents are available in many sizes and shapes. Avian, A-frame, hoops, dome, cabin, tunnel and wedge tents are the most popular types of tents on the market today.

A-frame canvas tents require four poles in order to form an A shape at the two extremities plus enough stakes to attach the canvas to the ground. The A-frame is regarded as perhaps the best in all weather conditions and affords more head room for people walking around within the tent. This is the more traditional and practical type of canvas tent.

Cabin canvas tents are the most bulky and difficult to set up. However, they are spacious and feature walls, room dividers, floors and sometimes screened porches, making the set up well worth it if you are housing several people for a long camping stay.

With avian tents, there are only two poles necessary. These are normally just used in lighter weather conditions, perhaps during hiking trips where quick cover is necessary in case of sudden showers.

The most commonly used type of canvas tent is the pyramid tent. The pyramid tent features just one pole in the middle of it, and then stakes are placed all around the outer edges to fix the tent to the ground. The pyramid tent is usually quite sufficient if you are not spending extending periods of time in the tent, and it is among the easiest to set up.

Dome canvas tents work well when multiple people are going to be staying in the tent for an extended period of time. The size of these tents can be expanded simply by placing more poles where you need them to maintain the dome shape.

Canvas tents have been the preferred choice for most campers over time for their ability to withstand weather changes, durability, and for the wide variety they come in and are perfect for any outdoor adventures.
