Camping Trip Destinations

Over the years, I’ve been camping in far too many places to recount them all. My first camping trip was in 4th grade (that’s about 25 to 30 years ago now), and since then I’ve gone on at least 4 or 5 camping trips a year. So needless to say, I’ve had quite a few different and varied experiences when it comes to camping. I’ve camped in all different sorts of places and in just about every condition you can imagine. In this article I want to take a look at some popular camping destinations and discuss some important things to know about camping before you go.

Forest/woods – This is pretty much the standard camping destination. “Where are you going camping?” “Oh, in the woods somewhere.” You can find big enough forests in just about every state, and chances are good that you won’t have to drive very far to get there either. All around a good camping experience.

Mountains – My absolute favorite place to camp is somewhere up high in the mountains, especially when it’s summer and really hot. Going up a few thousand feet in elevation can drop the temperature dramatically. Plus, the scenery is great!

Beach – Camping on the beach is definitely a special treat. You have to be careful not to camp too close to the water though. If the tide comes in and you’re too close, it can wash away anything that’s not tied down (tables, camping chairs, etc) plus it would totally soak your tent. Make sure to pitch your tent far enough away to stay dry.

Your backyard – Not the most exciting camping destination, but definitely accessible for everyone. Pitching your tent in your backyard and making a small campfire to roast marshmallows can be a lot of fun. If you have kids, they’ll have a blast doing this.
