Aesthetically speaking, oak is a naturally beautifully wood. Since it is long lasting, an antique oak sideboard is a marvelous addition to any dining room regardless of the style of your other furniture. Solid oak is a durable material and an antique is often in perfect condition.

You might not want an antique and the possible scars it may bring from past use. There are excellent replicas available. These fine pieces include copies from castles in Europe as well as pioneer styles from the early days in the United States.

Since an antique or even a replica may be priced too high for many families, beautifully crafted sideboards are for sale in furniture store everywhere. You can find natural oak wood, unstained but varnished. There is a wide range of colors available.

One would think oak is oak. Well that is true, however, there are shades from blond to stained light to dark and even black oak. Whatever style furniture you prefer, you can find it in one of these colors.

Current styles are as varied as traditional, early American, French Provincial, modern and we could list others. After selecting the shade of oak and the style of furniture desired, you may want to begin shopping around.

As you see all the styles available, decide if you want to match your existing dining room furniture, or add an eclectic touch with a sideboard that stands out beautifully on its own. Whatever you decide, make sure it complements the table, chairs and china cabinet.

The addition of an oak sideboard to your dining room should be attractive as well as provide useful storage. Choose carefully. It should be unique. However do not make the mistake of trying to mix Danish modern with French provincial for example. Your new pantry cabinets should either match or complement your current decor.
