If you want to save a bunch on curtain rods, the best way to do so is by making one on your own. Constructing drapery rods are fairly easy as long as you have a detailed guide that will help accomplish the task. Of course like any other DIY project, you should start by researching for a step-by-step guide on how to make curtain rods. There are hundreds of sites offering vast information on the proper way of constructing different types of rods. Once you have acquired enough information, the next thing to do is to devise a plan. It would be best to write down your ideas so you’ll have an easy reference during the actual construction.
After that, determine the materials that you will need to actualize your plan. Typically you will require a used pole (preferable wooden or plastic), brushes, sandpaper, curtain hooks, and assorted paints. When everything has been prepared, you can now take measurements of your window dimension to determine whether you need to cut the pole that you have. In case the pole is shorter that what you require, try to find a longer one and check if it will suffice the need. You can also go to a discount or recycle store to acquire your pole.
If you will be using wooden curtain poles, make sure to use the sand paper to remove its rough surfaces before coating it with a lacquer finish or paint. After sanding the pole, you can now start painting it according to your liking. It is highly recommended to take note of the wall’s paint as well as the existing home décor so that the pole will seamlessly blend with them.
While waiting for the paint to dry, find unused kitchen hooks or brackets. These will be used for mounting the homemade rod. Make sure to properly screw the brackets on the wall with the aid of some hand tools. When the paint has already dried out, you may now insert the curtain draperies. With just a little creativity and imagination, you will surely be able to come up with attractive curtain rods without having to spend much!
