How to Find Extra Space in Your Refrigerator

If you are like most people, chances are you’ve been in this situation before – you get home from shopping for groceries, only to find out that your refrigerator is already so full of food that it is a real chore to shove in what you just bought.  I know this has happened to me, and I’ll give you a few tips that I’ve learned along the way to fit more into your refrigerator.

Many people are tempted to go out and buy a new refrigerator that can hold more stuff.  New styles like French door, four door, or the cabinet depth refrigerator can hold a lot more than the basic units.  Don’t get me wrong, these are great appliances to own, but they are also very expensive to buy.  Before you go out and spend your hard earned money, you should first see if you can re-organize your refrigerator to fit everything in.

The first thing to do is to take things out that are old.  These items are often hiding in the back and on the lower shelves where you don’t normally look.  Check expiry dates and throw out leftovers that are old – the general consensus is that if leftovers are more than a few days old, they are ready for the rubbish or compost bin.

After tossing out old things that you don’t need in there, the next step is to re-organize what you have in there.  In my opinion, the best way to do this is to go out and get some square plastic food containers, or Tupperware-type things.  Since food packages aren’t designed to stack on top of each other efficiently, they usually take up a lot more space than they need to.  By emptying packages into containers and stacking them neatly, you should be able to nearly double the amount of food and drinks that you can fit in there.  If you have a small refrigerator, or a caravan fridge, fitting food inside is especially important.
