While the addition of shut-off shower valves may seem like a small upgrade, the truth is, this simple addition can already help you to save a significant amount of money and water. If you want to get more water savings while at the same time dramatically reducing your water bills, then you should seriously consider installing a shut-off valve into your shower head.
To successfully install the shut-off valve on your own, here is quick and simple installation guide that you should follow:
First and foremost, you have to prepare all the items that you need. This includes the Teflon tape, shower shut-off valve, and vice grip pliers. Your initial task is to remove the shower head from the shower pipe. Use the vice grip pliers to conveniently remove the shower head. It is recommended that you wrap a wash cloth around the shower to avoid damaging its finish when you use the pliers. Introduce a firm grip onto the shower and start turning it. The vice pliers is a useful tool that always come in handy when dismounting stubborn plumbing fixtures.
After you have removed the shower head, clean the open end of the shower. It is very likely that mineral deposits have already accumulated around it so be sure to remove it before you place the valve. Also, take off the old Teflon tape that is still present on the pipe. A vinegar mixture can help to effectively remove stubborn stains on the pipe. Find a large container and submerge the shower head in it and leave it while you clean the pipe.
Once you have cleaned the pipe’s threading, begin wrapping the Teflon tape around it. Make sure to only put enough and try not to overdo it. The most important thing is you’ll be able to firmly wrap the Teflon tape around the pipe’s thread. After which, you may now install the shut-off shower valve. Try not to exert too much force as you screw the valve in place as this might cause the valve to crack.
Next, wrap the threading of the valve the same way you did with the shower pipe. Rinse the showerhead and then screw it unto the valve. Make sure that everything is tightly secured in place before you open the main waterline to test if the valve is working properly.
Follow these quick and simple steps when installing shut off shower valves in different bathroom areas in your home.
