A butterfly knife is also known as “Bailsong” this word comes from the Philippines.  They believe they were the true inventor of the butterfly knives; it’s been trace back all the way to the early 800 b.c. As a knife collector I have always been interested in knowing the true history I guess I will have to just settle for the old folk tails for now. The evolution of the butterfly knife has been impressive over the years. The early years were good knives but as technology evolved so did the designs. Some of the early designs were just your standard steel nothing specials. In today’s design there using titanium steel, with carbide fittings, and there also putting in micro roller ball bearings. What an amazing differences in the quality and function. I have had knives from the swap meet and when I started spending a little more money I could see the real difference in how fast they open and close and just the way it fills in your hands.

Some may consider a butterfly knife a hunting knife if you’re an experience hunter. I remember the first time I went out hunting and brought a butterfly knife with me, yea not the best decision I ever made. I have become a big hunter know and realize I need to have my true hunting knife. Aside from being able to show off opening and closing a butterfly knife quickly, and maybe doing a few tricks with it there not to much you can do with it. One of those most festinating things I like about knives is the unique design. You can find extremely unique design when it comes to martial art weapons. I have been collecting for close to 20 years now, and I am up to over 200 different styles of knives and still growing.
