Liposculpture is a procedure designed to liquefy and remove fatty deposits in the body. It can be performed on most areas of the body, though it is most commonly used on the hips, legs, abdomen, neck, and face. The nice thing about getting a liposculpture procedure is that the process is relatively non-invasive and most often requires only a local anesthetic; a general anesthesia can be administered if that is preferred.
There are two types of these procedures that are normally performed. These two common techniques include: Tumescent Liposculpture and Ultrasonic Liposculpture. There are actually only a few small differences between the two types. In Tumescent procedures, a tumescent liquid is injected through tiny incursions in the skin around the fatty deposits. This liquid then loosens the fatty deposits and the fat is then suctioned out with the aid of long thin rods. In Ultrasonic procedures, the fatty deposits are loosened and liquefied by ultrasonic energy.
It is performed by inserting similar long thin rods to the ones used in the tumescent procedure, but these rods emit ultrasonic energy. Once the deposits are liquefied, the fat is then removed through a gentle massage process. The recovery time and side effects are about the same with either method. The most common side effects are bruising, numbness, burning, soreness, and swelling. On average, a lipo procedure can last anywhere from a half hour to four hours, with a local anesthetic.
A full recovery from all bruising and swelling after a lipo procedure can last anywhere from one month to six months. Lipo procedures can only be performed on those who have good elasticity to their skin, because of the chance of sagging and wrinkling after the procedure. Liposculpture cost varies from doctor to doctor and city to city. But on average, a full body liposculpture would generally run around seven thousand dollars at a reasonably priced plastic surgeon.
