Laser Lipo and the Risk of Surgery

Despite being a relatively safe procedure, there are many risks associated with liposuction. Since it is still a surgical procedure, many of the risks remain and cannot be eliminated completely. The good news is with smaller procedures like laser liposuction surgery the risks are reduced dramatically. This includes both surgical and anesthesia risks associated with the typical liposuction procedure. However, the laser technique does pose its own unique risk however rare it may be. That is the risk burning the skin with the laser heat because the laser was left in one area for too long.
But besides the risk of burning the skin, most typical liposuction risks are well managed under laser liposuction. The most common problem with traditional liposuction for surgeons and patients is the amount of blood loss caused by leaking from damaged blood vessels. Since laser liposuction is a much more delicate procedure and can accurate target unwanted body fat while leaving other tissue relatively untouched, there is much less blood loss involved. It is not uncommon for a patient of traditional liposuction to require a blood transfusion to make up for the massive amount of blood lost. Other surgical risks include infection to the incision area and scaring. Since laser liposuction uses much smaller tools, the incision is often much smaller. This greatly reduces the risk of infection or scarring to the incision area.
Another area that poses a great deal of risk with any plastic surgery procedure is the administration of anesthesia. This is why a board certified anesthesiologist plays such a crucial role. The improper dosage could cause all sorts of problems including but not limited to heart arrhythmias and breathing problems. The lack of oxygen could cause permanent brain damage. In just about any surgical procedure, especially where general anesthesia is administered to sedate the patient, anesthesia poses another element of risk.
