Is Getting a Tummy Tuck the Right Choice?

If you have recently given birth, you may be considering a tummy tuck to regain your youthful figure back.  However, when you really think about it, do you really need a tummy tuck?  To help you answer this question, the article is going to focus on a few questions that you need to honestly answer before taking the next step.

First, do you have the money?  While you may not realize it, the tummy tuck cost is often not covered by the patient’s health insurance.  As a result, the patient will often have to pay for it out of their pocket.  In case you are wondering, the majority of insurance providers will not pay for this surgery because they consider it elective and not medically necessary.

Next, do you really need the surgery?  If you think a tummy tuck will remove a large volume of fat, you are going to be sadly disappointed.  The whole purpose behind a tummy tuck is to remove any excess, saggy skin from the abdominal area.  If you need to have fat deposits removed, you may have to get liposuction surgery instead.

With that said, if you can remove the weight with exercise or nutrition, you should try to do so.  Surgery should only be considered as a last resort.

Lastly, are you aware of all the inherent risks of tummy tucks?  Many people don’t realize it, but a tummy tuck is major invasive surgery that has a whole slew of potential risks.  These risks can range from infection to blood clots to even death.

As we have proven, a tummy tuck is not a risk free proposition.

If you are still serious about getting a tummy tuck, we recommend you contact a cosmetic surgeon and schedule a consultation.  For more information on the various aspects of tummy tucks, we highly encourage you to visit the New Jersey Tummy Tuck Guide.
