Dealing with Hydrocodone Addiction

There are several potential steps in overcoming Hydrocodone addiction. The first of these steps is admitting that you have a problem and that you need help. Many people admit that they have a problem eventually, but they still do not accept their addiction on a really deep level and vow to take action against it. There is a really big difference between admitting to a drug problem, and actually accepting it and then asking for help.
The person who is asking for help for their addiction and is willing to take nearly any suggestion is actually ready for help. The person who is only willing to take help on their own terms is still stuck in denial and is not ready to stop using drugs yet. Again, there is a big difference between these two mindsets and once you learn to identify this line between willingness and denial then you will be able to more accurately predict who will stay clean and who will relapse.
Once a person has asked for help and is ready to take action, they need some direction in order to make a positive change. Most people who are physically addicted to the opiate based pills will need some professional help with detoxing themselves. This is best done in a drug rehab center under medical supervision. The staff there can assist the addict in getting them through the nasty withdrawal without too much discomfort.
In rehab, an addict will learn about the various tools of recovery and how they can stay clean and sober on the outside. Support groups and 12 step programs are pretty much a universal solution at most rehabs, and you can expect to be exposed to them if you choose to attend treatment. Some people might also use certain medications to help them stay clean and sober from a physical craving standpoint.
