Before you decide to get your next guitar, let’s consider a few things you need to look into. The tone, obviously, is probably the most important aspect but what about looks, reliability and quality? The Ibanez S470 has been a top quality, very versatile guitar in Ibanez’ lineup for a number of years now and for good reason. Innovative design and electronics have made it a favorite among musicians who need to be able to cover a wide variety of music.
Medium output pickups are always a great asset on a guitar when you have a decent amp and a few guitar pedals. This gives you almost infinite tonal possibilities. I have a Traynor 50 watt tube amp that has some decent overdrive on the dirty channel but not a high amount of distortion. It is a really good amp though and with the numerous pedals I have, I can play pretty much any song perfectly matched for tone with the small amount of equipment I have. This all comes down to the perfect overtones of the wood in the guitar and the pickups.
The body on the Ibanez S470 is all mahogany, except for a sub-model that has a fancy quilted maple top on it. The LP is one of the great all mahogany guitars of all time but it is really heavy and awkward to play. The S470 has a sculpted edge to it and extra thickness where it needs it in the bridge through to the neck area. This makes it much lighter but the deep resonating tone is still on par with the LP.
My friends, I’m sure you’ve heard of the wizard neck that Ibanez is famous for? Whether you play fast metal licks or slow bluesy solos, you will love what this slim and quick neck can do for your playing style. A classic rosewood fretboard with 22 frets is what you’re equipped with along with some beautiful albatross inlays to guide you around the neck.
For the whammy players in the crowd, you’ll be pretty impressed with how advanced the Ibanez Edge tremolo system has become. Precise tune continuity is really what makes or breaks a tremolo bridge and the Edge setup has seemed to nail it perfectly.
Don’t take my word for it if you’re not entirely convinced. Go check one out and give it a test drive. All I’m saying is, if you need a well rounded guitar that is top quality, looks great and stands up to some serious playing, then the Ibanez S470 might be exactly what you’re looking for.
