Lil Boosie, whose birth name is Torrence Hatch is a well known rapper in America. He first started out working with the group Concentration Camp but then branched out and released his own CD and came out as who we now know as Lil Boosie. In 2006 he released his album called “Super Smash” and also made an announcement to the media that he has diabetes.  There are two major types of diabetes mellitus: Type 1 which is insulin dependent; and Type 2 which ultimately can be heavily controlled by diet and weight loss.

Lil Boosie suffers from Type 1 diabetes which is a life changing disease. When you are first diagnosed with diabetes it does come as a shock. It’s almost as if you go through a mourning phase and then denial. Lil Boosie went through this phase, he didn’t want to face the fact that he had the disease and didn’t do what needed to be done in order to take care of himself and keep his disease under control. It doesn’t matter when you are diagnosed with the disease you need to take care of yourself correctly otherwise you can and will die.

Those that suffer from Type 1 diabetes need insulin in order to stay alive. Their bodies don’t produce the insulin that they need for energy so instead they have to either inject themselves with insulin shots or they can use an insulin pump. Type 1 diabetics need to monitor their blood sugar levels by pricking their finger and seeing what their blood sugar level is. This should be done at least three times per day.

They also need to monitor what they eat which means paying attention to the amount of sugar and carbohydrates that are in the foods that they are consuming which is hard to do for someone that is an entertainer such as Lil Boosie.  Type 1 diabetes can be a hard disease to live with but it is a manageable disease. As long as you eat right and take the right amount of insulin when your body needs it, then you can go about your life and no one will even know that you suffer from this disease. It’s all a matter of self control and self knowledge, but by no means are Lil Boosie diabetes always easy to cope with; he faces challenges just like everyone else.
