Financing a 3D TV

The latest in TV technology is 3D, just in time for the DVD release of the 3D film “Avatar”. As with watching a movie in 3D in a theater, you need to wear special glasses. This is because what makes a real-life scene look like it has depth when we look at it is primarily due to the fact that we are seeing it from two slightly different angles. When filming a movie in 3D two angles are also used, but you need the glasses in order to have each eye see the correct angle. The technology used today for the glasses allows for much better image quality than had been possible before.

Samsung, Sony and others have come out with models, but the Panasonic 3D TV leads the pack right now in quality. The Viera TX-P50VT20, a fifty inch plasma set. As usual with plasma televisions, you have to experiment with the settings to get a really good picture, but once you’ve figured that out you should be very pleased with the 2D image. The required glasses are not as comfortable as some, but the 3D effect is excellent.

A 3D TV such as this Panasonic will set you back at least $2000, so you may need to consider some financing options. If you use the old standby, your credit card, you will end up paying quite a lot in interest unless you can manage to pay off the TV in just a few months.  If you can’t afford to pay much more than minimum payments on your credit card, a better option for TV financing would be to see if you can arrange for an installment plan with the store. Normally you can do this if you can at least come up with a reasonable down payment, and can show that you have a regular source of income. The amount of interest you pay will normally be less than with a credit card. Just be sure that this TV financing option allows you to take possession of your TV right away.
