As computers become more complex it is increasingly popular to use PC maintenance software to automatically complete computer repair and maintenance. This Reimage review details one solution for fixing registry faults, speeding up PCs and even resolving blue screen errors.
After my laptop crashed with a blue screen exception in 2007 which occurred during start up I had to research ways try and resolve the issue. Manual attempts didn’t succeed. The exception code (0x80072EFD – registry is corrupted) led me to the Reimage PC repair service.
The initial perception of Reimage was that it is an online service (it runs from within your browser to scan your system for faults) but they also offer a boot application from their site which was able to boot my laptop past the blue screen during start-up. Once logged into Windows the scan was able to detect registry faults as well as faulty/missing files. From looking at the scan report the issues mostly related to applications I had taken off the computer.
The second stage (repairs) for Reimage resets faulty/missing registry keys based on their database of correct settings. It also downloads updated/upgraded/missing files for the operating system and applications on demand. The reboot after installing the files completes the Reimage PC repair.
In the case of my laptop the blue screen thankfully did not appear again so the issue was 100% resolved. I was curious however to see what the free Reimage scan would pick up on my separate desktop PC. This time the scan highlighted some possible trojan applications (which I let it remove) and suggested some internet connection performance improvements (to the registry and device drivers). This made a noticeable improvement to the connection speed for this desktop.
Reimage is definitely something to consider when your own manual home PC repairs fail to bring results. The fact that it uses an inventory of 20 million files means it can benefit most Windows XP machines and at the very least it is a much more preferable option to reinstalling Windows when fatal issues occur.
