I will brag now and say that I am and was an ideal birth partner. I was very supportive of my wife’s decisions about birthing (home birth, natural birth, etc.). I helped make a lot of the preparations. I educated myself, and I even followed her hypnobirthing course.

Still, I admit that having a woman who is experienced and trained in helping women birth was still a great decision. She could offer words of advice, and physical support that was at least different than what I could offer as a strong birth partner. This is why I highly recommend hiring a doula.
