There are numerous reasons that may make one desire to be a boxer. Maybe he or she is a victim of very serious bullying in school or is prone to little fights in which he or she usually emerges the loser. At this point, boxing becomes a good self defense skill. Also, one may only be interested in acquiring a different skill or in pursuing boxing on a professional level in order to earn money. It does not matter if one desires to be an amateur or a professional boxer; there are some basic procedures on how to become a boxer.
The first all important step for an aspiring boxer to take is to become a member of a boxing club. Boxing clubs are an appropriate forum in which one can thoroughly train in all boxing basics like defense as well as offense, stance, shadowboxing, ringcraft and combinations. This training lasts for about six months minimum and twelve months maximum after which the trainee boxer should have acquired some fundamental skills.
After the basic training, the boxer should participate in sparring sessions. These are matches that are supposed to enhance the knowledge along with the skills of the boxer and as such, the scores are not recorded. Once training is completed, the aspiring boxers will need to sign up as competitors in these sessions. The coach will link the boxer with an opponent whose age, level of skill, weight and gender are similar to the boxer’s. Gradually, the boxer will progress to boxing tournaments for beginners.
After taking part in eleven bouts, a boxer qualifies for provincial championships. If the boxer emerges the winner in the provincial championship, he or she qualifies for national championships. When the boxer takes part in international tournaments for boxing, he or she will in the long run be able to participate in the Olympics thereby becoming international champions. That will be the stepping stone to an actual career in boxing.
