There Is No Easy Money in Vending

For some people, the lure of easy money becomes a trap. If you believe there is easy money to be made, you’re much more likely to fall victim to scams promising things like “make money with no effort”, “get rich while you sleep” and “the easy road to instant riches”. This is true for all things in life a d especially true in vending. A lot of companies suck people into believing that vending is a simple effortless way to make money. I mean after all, as they love to tell people, “You’re machines make money 24/7”.

OK, it’s true that your machines can potentially make money 24/7, but believe me when I say that there’s a lot more to the vending machine business than they would leave you to believe. It’s a small business much like any other small business; it involves long hours to get established, money to invest in growth and maintenance, and constant management if you want to provide yourself with a decent income.

You will need to invest a lot of time and money into getting the 400+ machines you need on locations in order to get a full time income. I will say that the one good thing vending has over other home based or small businesses is that it is possible to start very small and expand as capital becomes available. But most people can’t see the beauty in a business that only nets about $7 a head per month and become discouraged well before they achieve any results.

Think of the time involved in getting 400 machines on location. Now you have to service these machines every 45-60 days, which takes less than 10 minutes, but when factoring in your commute time, it will take about 1 hour to service 3 or 4 locations. This means that you’ll need 100 hours every 2 months to commit to just servicing your vending machines. This really isn’t a bad time investment, 2 ½ weeks of full time work every two months for a decent income. But a lot of people don’t factor in these things – runs to get candy, book keeping, coin counting, daily runs to the bank and additional machine placements. Remember, that about 5% of your locations will need to be relocated or replaced every year.
