Roll up awning for your business

awningHave you considered purchasing roll up awnings for your home or business. I went visiting a few bookshops in the neighbourhood to ask about their awnings. What to look for and the benefits of buying one. The pros definitely outweighed the cons they all said and offered up this advice.

Be careful with the UV protector that is applied, make sure you have a good one applied. Sun will be pounding the awning and the color will quickly bleach out if it is not well protected. Another shop owner said of roll up awnings, make sure it is installed at a good height. It may seem simple but he had originally put his up at 6′ 6″. Of course he was shortly visited by a couple locals that were a touch taller than that. Seven feet is a good guideline.

You also want to not skimp on the quality of both the under-carriage and the canvas. The number one destroyer of awnings is wind. If you opt for an inexpensinve canvas it will start to shred after the first windstorm. Your shop would look better with no awning than with a tattered one. As for the frame, most installers use aircraft grade aluminum. Just confirm this.

You may also want to invest in a few sensors. There are a few good ones that will help you get the most out of your roll up awning. You can get a brightness sensor (with a motorized awning) that will raise or lower it depending on the level of sunshine. A wind speed sensor will roll it up when the wind speed elevates. This will help you to avoid damage and extend the lifespan of your awning.

Finally when making the purchase, please shop around. Buying from a direct wholesaler could end up saving you enough to buy the sensors discussed. Do not go with the first quote you receive even if it sounds attractive.
